Leah Piepgras (b. 1970, Norman, OK) received her received her BFA in sculpture from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1993 and an MFA from Carnegie Mellon University in 1997. She has exhibited and performed throughout the United States. Using her own body and shapes derived from nature as references and building blocks in performances, photographs, and sculptures, Piepgras examines our collective identity as part of nature, our humanity, and our place within the cosmos. She has a deep love for the physical process of making objects and uses many different mediums, such as plaster, mirrors, and brass, and methods such as fabricating, mold-making, and painting to communicate her ideas. Her work has been covered in Artsy, The New York Times, and The Boston Globe. She lives and works on the lands surrounding Lake Cochichewick in North Andover, MA.
